Mediterranean Wet Room Bath in Edgewater
A comprehensive transformation elevated this primary bathroom from its dated configuration into a sophisticated wet room sanctuary. Drawing inspiration from Mediterranean design principles, the space harmoniously balances warmth and luxury through thoughtfully curated materials and architectural elements.Category: Full Bathroom Renovation
Features: Wet Room
Year: 2025
Location: Edgewater, Chicago, IL 60660
Project Description
The centerpiece of the renovation is a generously proportioned soaking tub, complemented by handcrafted terracotta wall tiles from Tile Bar’s Parry Collection in Clay. These artisanal tiles, with their subtle tonal variations, are enhanced by Laticrete Permicolor grout in Terracotta, creating a seamless visual flow. The flooring features Zia Tile’s Sputnik terrazzo in 12″x12″ format, introducing organic movement and texture while maintaining the space’s cohesive design narrative.
Storage solutions are elegantly addressed through a custom Dura Supreme vanity crafted in Natural Quarter Sawn White Oak, its distinctive grain pattern adding organic visual interest. The vanity’s clean lines and substantial storage capacity merge form with functionality. Countertops in MSI’s Perla White stone provide a crisp contrast while harmonizing with the room’s overall palette.
Architectural improvements include replacing dated glass block with contemporary black-framed windows, establishing a bold visual anchor that coordinates with the matte black plumbing fixtures. Brushed gold hardware and lighting elements introduce a sophisticated mixed-metal aesthetic, lending warmth and refinement to the space.
The wet room configuration maximizes the bathroom’s footprint while creating distinct zones for bathing and grooming. This thoughtful spatial planning, combined with the carefully selected material palette, delivers a sanctuary-like environment that seamlessly blends contemporary comfort with timeless Mediterranean influences.
