Artistic Kitchen Renovation in West Town

The recently completed kitchen remodel in West Town, Chicago, IL, has transformed a once uninspiring outdated space into a vibrant, efficient, and visually striking heart of the home. Designer and project manager Stephanie Weinstein drew inspiration from the clients’ existing artwork and love of color, moving away from the previous brown and beige palette to create a lively and functional kitchen that serves as a true showstopper.

Project Description

At the core of the design are the eye-catching blue cabinets, which set the tone for the entire space. Complementing these is a stunning Zia tile backsplash, a feature that Stephanie predicts will become increasingly popular. This backsplash, with its hand-cut tiles, creates a dynamic, textured effect reminiscent of a living wall, offering subtle variations that reward close inspection.

The countertops further enhance the kitchen’s visual appeal. Two types of quartzite were chosen: a leathered Taj Mahal quartzite with green veining that beautifully accents the cabinet and backsplash colors, and a glossier quartzite for the waterfall island. This island, initially not a priority for the clients, became a standout feature once they saw the stunning stone, effectively serving as a piece of art at the center of the kitchen.

Storage was a key consideration in the redesign, especially important for the family with a young daughter. Custom cabinets with pull-out features maximize space efficiency, while a strategically placed pantry allows for easy access without creating bottlenecks in the kitchen’s workflow. An innovative appliance garage provides a clever solution for storing large, frequently used appliances, keeping countertops clear without sacrificing convenience.

The design seamlessly blends sophistication with rustic elements. Brass hardware adds a touch of elegance, while a custom wood ledge on a partially closed window introduces a warm, natural element that also provides additional storage space. The electric stove, part of the Cafe brand, offers a unique feature: two separate temperature zones within a standard-sized oven, catering to the needs of enthusiastic home cooks.

Throughout the space, careful attention was paid to both aesthetics and functionality. The electric cooktop not only contributes to the kitchen’s modern look but also improves safety and ease of cleaning, important considerations for a family kitchen.

The result is a kitchen that exceeds the expectations in both efficiency and visual impact. It’s a space that works better for the client’s needs while also serving as a stunning focal point of their home. The client expressed their full satisfaction with the renovation, highlighting how it has improved their daily lives while providing a feast for the eyes.

This project showcases the successful blend of bold design choices with practical family-oriented solutions, creating a kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful.
