Style Tips for a Simple and Tasteful Look

If you like your home, then you probably care about the way it looks. Luckily, you don’t need to break a bank in order to make your home look like a million bucks. Sure, there are many ways in which you can improve your home’s appearance that does require quite an investment. However, there are also many ways that require nothing but your time and creativity. So, if you think your home’s appearance could use an upgrade, here are a few simple tips that can help you achieve that timeless and stylish look.

Choose the right color scheme

One of the most important things when decorating your home is choosing the right color scheme for each room. The color you choose for the walls will dictate the color of everything else in that room, which is why you should choose wisely. For example, you can go for neutral colors, which are very elegant and can match any style, but they don’t allow many personal touches. On the other hand, you can choose bolder, dramatic colors, and make the room truly unique, but such colors are a bit more difficult to balance. Nevertheless, choose colors that make you feel good, spice things up with accessories, and you can’t go wrong.

Declutter

If you want your home to be stylish, one thing it cannot be is cluttered. So, try to vacuum it and dust it at least once a week, and make sure every item has its designated place away from sight. Have plenty of trash bins so there’s never any kind of trash sitting on a table or counter, and don’t clutter your rooms with more furniture items than you actually need. Having a clean and clutter-free home will allow your décor to really stand out.

Create a focal point

Every room in your home should have a focal point, and everything around that focal point should emphasize it. Most rooms have already built-in focal points, like a large TV or fireplace in your living room, a bed in your bedroom, or a large window with a view in your dining room. In case your rooms don’t have such focal points, you can always create your own. For example, you can paint one wall in a different color and accessorize it with artwork or mirrors, or you can place an aquarium in your living room with some potted plants around it. For your study room, you can turn your bookshelf into a focal point and arrange the books by color.

The curb appeal matters too

Having a stylish home is not just about the interior – you should pay attention to the exterior as well. Keep your lawn and hedges trimmed, and do some landscaping. If you have a front yard patio, choose the right furniture for it, make sure it is well lit, and decorate it to fit the overall appearance of your exterior. Also, you can improve the look of your pathways by using some quality decorative concrete and placing a couple of smaller bushes along the path. Moreover, if you have a fence, don’t forget to keep it clean and repaint it from time to time as well.

Light it up properly

None of the above-mentioned things will matter if nobody can actually see them. Therefore, make sure every room is properly lit. However, lighting is not just about literally being able to see, but also about style. So, instead of going for typical lighting fixtures, choose those that are more elegant and perhaps even a bit unexpected. For example, you can add spring lights in your bathroom for creating a romantic atmosphere while taking a bath, or you can add a colorful drum shade around an old chandelier to create a unique look. Just make sure to layer your lighting sources in order to make your home look more modern.

If you want your home to be stylish, pay attention to the details. Choose the right color scheme for each room, and create a focal point that emphasizes that room’s purpose. Ensure that every room is properly lit with more than one lighting source, and don’t let your home ever become cluttered. Finally, pay attention to your exterior as well, and do whatever you can to make your home look as good on the outside as it does on the inside. This way, you can rest assured that your home will look better than ever before.
